Chinese defence ministry responds over report of new Chinese military base in Afghanistan

BEIJING - China has no military presence in Afghanistan Wakhan Corridor, a spokesman for the defence ministry in Beijing says, Pajhwok News has reported.

Ren Guoqiang issued the denial at a monthly media briefing, reiterating China’s commitment to efforts for regional stability.

Chinese military vehicles have reportedly been operating in the corridor in the Hindu Kush link mountains near Tajikistan.

In February, according to AP, the Washington Post reported on a sizeable Chinese military complex. However, the troops' mission remains hazy.
