CPEC projects and importance for Pakistan

MITHI: (APP) Speakers at a seminar Friday emphasised that the multi-billion dollars China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which also included the Thar coal and various other projects in Sindh, would benefit the province.

The seminar was organised by the Education Department Tharparkar to discuss the CPEC project here.

The speakers noted that the CPEC would prove to be a game-changer for Pakistan, as it contains 33,793 million dollars energy sector schemes, which would end energy shortages in the country.

They said the CPEC project initiated in 2014 would be completed by 2030, and it would link China to Gwadar Port in Balochistan.

The speakers included Member Sindh Assembly Dr. Mahesh Kumar, Member National Assembly Faqeer Sher Muhammad Bilalani, Chairman District Council Ghulam Hyder Samejo and Brig. (retd) Tariq of Engro Coal Company.

District Officer Education Naseer Ahmed Jogi, in a briefing on the CPEC, pointed out that the CPEC includes 21 energy sector projects of 33,793 million dollars, four transport infrastructure projects of 9,784 million dollars and eight projects for Gwadar of 792.62 million dollars. The CPEC also contains the projects of oil, gas, agriculture, livestock, fisheries and other sectors.

He apprised that 34.413 billion dollars would be spent on energy sector, 6.100 billion dollars on roads, and 3.690 billion dollars would be spent on Railways.

Brig. (retd) Tariq of Engro Coal Company explained that Thar Coal is part of CPEC project. Work on Thar Coal block- 2 is underway and open-pit coal mining for extracting coal is underway round the clock.

He informed that new villages are being developed to resettle the villagers residing in the villages in Thar Coal block- 2.

The seminar was attended by a large number of people from different walks of life.
