8 new hydropower projects feasibility study completed

ISLAMABAD: (APP) Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) has completed feasibility studies and prefeasibility studies of eight run of the river hydropower projects by utilizing tributaries of the rivers.

Official sources told APP here on Friday that these projects had an accumulative capacity of 2,088.5 MW.

The said the feasibility studies of projects included Basho hydro power project (40 MW), Harpo hyrdo power project (34.5 MW), Phandar (665 MW) and Lower Spat Gah (496 MW) of which feasibility studies had been completed by WAPDA.

Similarly, WAPDA also completed prefeasibility study of Upper Palas Valley hydropower project (157 MW), Middle Palas Valley hydropower project (398 MW) and Upper Spat Gah (252 MW) in 2008.

They said during the last five years, feasibility study of Basho (40 MW) hydropower project had been completed.

A total of 14 international and local experts were hired for completing feasibility of Basho project, they added.
