US to reconstruct Afghan Military and Air Bases in a long term plan

KABUL - The Resolute Support mission of NATO in Afghanistan will start the reconstruction of military airports and factories for maintaining aircraft and barracks for pilots and engineers of the Afghan Air Force.
The work will start in the next year.
The Resolute Support mission is raising funds for the project and it will prepare a project plan for it within the next month.
“We are in the budgeting phase for the staff. As far as scheduling goes, we are looking at starting design and engineering in January of 2018,” said Thomas Lavean, AIF program manager of the Resolute Support.
According to engineers of the Resolute Support, the project will be implemented in Kandahar and Balkh airports.
“Building facilities are a huge part to be able to operate a successful Air Force. You need to have a good place to live and work as well,” said Alex Wright, TAAC-Air engineering adviser.
The number of Afghan Air Force aircraft and helicopters will increase from 120 to at least 400 within the next few years.
The size of the Afghan Air Force will be tripled in the coming years, according to Resolute Support officials.
