SC accepts Siddiqui’s appeal against his removal as IHC judge

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday issued a written order regarding accepting an appeal of Islamabad High Court’s former judge Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui challenging the decision of Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) removing him from the post.

The order stated that the petition of former judge had been accepted for initial hearing after turning down objections of the registrar. The registrar office had been ordered to fix the petition in accordance with law.

The order read that the petitioner had challenged the contents of SJC dated October 11, 2018. The decision of SJC could be challenged under Article 184/3 of the Constitution.

The SC, in a verdict earlier, had maintained that the “SJC has no status of a court.”

The registrar office of the top court had returned the petition by raising several objections on it.      The order stated that the objections of the registrar office were technical in nature, which were turned down by the court on petitioner’s appeal.

It may be mentioned here that a five-member bench headed by Justice Mashir Alam had conducted hearing on the appeal of Shaukat Aziz Saddiqui on March 25.
