Murder or Suicide: DC Gujranwala death forensic report unveiled

*GUJRANWALA*: A report by the Punjab Forensic Science Agency, released on Monday, found no clue of murder in the case of DC Gujranwala Sohail Tipu.

The investigation team inspected the DC House and bedroom, where Tipu was found hanged on March 22. The team grilled the DC House employees, examined a CCTV footage and data on his computer, laptop and mobile phones. They also recorded a statement of the parents of Tipu who were staying with him.

The postmortem report and forensic lab agency report also found no evidence of murder.

According to reports, a night before Tipu was found, he had spoken to his mother. Later in the day, his office staffers had requested her to check why he wasn’t picking their calls. Tipu’s mother went to check on him in his room to find him hanging from a ceiling fan.

A case was registered under Sections 302 (premeditated murder), 324 (attempted murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of the deceased’s uncle Akram Tahir at the Civil Lines Police Station soon after the incident was reported.

Tipu was appointed as deputy commissioner in Gujranwala on December 11, 2017. He has three daughters and one son, who reside in Lahore.
