Five Indian Army soldiers killed, wounded in retaliatory fire at LoC

JAMMU – Five Indian Army officials were killed and wounded by retaliatoryfire by Pakistan Army.

An Indian Army jawan was on Tuesday killed while four others including alieutenant were injured as Pakistani troops shelled at forward posts inretaliation to Indian Army fire along the Line of Control in the Poonchdistrict of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said, NDTV has reported.

The cross-border shelling by Indian troops started in Krishna Ghati sectorTuesday morning and continued for over two hours, the retalitory fire byPakistan resulting in injuries to five soldiers including an officer, anArmy officer said.

One of the injured soldiers later succumbed to injuries at the militaryhospital.

A police official said a lieutenant and two junior commissioned officerswere among the injured and they were evacuated to command hospital inUdhampur district for specialized treatment.

Indian Army initiated unprovoked and indiscriminate firing from 0700 hoursusing small arms, automatics and mortars.

Pakistan Army has retaliated strongly, effectively and proportionately tothe unprovoked ceasefire violation.

This is for the third straight day that Indian troops have violated theceasefire and targeted forward posts.

However, the shelling failed to have any impact on cross-LoC trade whichtakes place between for four days a week from Tuesday to Friday along theChakan Da Bagh in Poonch district and Salamabad in Uri sector of Baramulladistrict.

Dozens of trucks from either side crossed the border from the tradefacilitation centres, the officials said.
