A specialized court handling cases falling under the purview of the Official Secrets Act has decided to defer the proceedings concerning the bail application submitted by Imran Khan, the former prime minister and current Chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, in the cipher case until September 4. The presiding judge, Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain of the special court, presided over the hearing that took place on a recent Saturday.
During the proceedings, Salman Safdar, Imran Khan's legal representative, voiced concerns to the judge regarding perceived obstacles created by the authorities at Attock Jail for PTI lawyers. He highlighted the arduous journey they must undertake, walking a distance of one and a half kilometers every time they visit Attock Jail, where the case is being tried. Furthermore, he indicated that an application has been formally submitted, contesting the trial's location within Attock Jail.
In response, the lawyer informed the court that an application has been filed opposing the trial's venue at Attock Jail. Notably, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) expressed its opposition to entertaining arguments related to Imran Khan's bail application during the hearing.
Concurrently, Judge Zulqarnain presided over the bail application submitted by Shah Mehmood Qureshi, the Vice Chairman of PTI and former Foreign Minister. During this part of the proceedings, the FIA prosecutor requested an adjournment of the hearing, leading to the deferment of the matter
