DPO Rizwan Gondal transfer case inquiry report revealed

ISLAMABAD – The inspector general of Punjab and the regional police officer (RPO) did not ask ex-Pakpattan DPO Rizwan Gondal to seek an apology from Khawan Maneka, former husband of Pakistan’s first lady Bushra Imran, said an inquiry report.

The controversy regarding Maneka-DPO faceoff surfaced after the Punjab government transferred Gondal. Reports rife in the media claimed that the police officer was removed from the seat for an alleged altercation with Maneka. However, Gondal said that he was mistreated.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar also took a suo motu notice regarding the alleged politically motivated transfer of Gondal. During a hearing in the case, Justice Nisar continued that if the transfer was made on the request of the Chief Minister Usman Buzdar or the person sitting next to him then this was not his right.

In the inquiry report prepared by Punjab Additional IG Abu Bakr Khuda Baksh over the Gondal’s transfer, it has been stated that neither Punjab IGP Kaleem Imam nor the RPO ordered the transfer.

It added that dispute between Gondal and Khawar was created over two incidents occurred on different dates – August 5 and August 23. In the 11-page report, 17 police officers were probed, including the ex-DPO, were investigated.
