The review plea concerning the marriage of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan to Bushra Bibi has been addressed by the Federal Shariat Court. Back in February 2022, the FSC had previously dismissed a petition that sought a decree regarding Imran Khan's marriage. Recently, FSC Chief Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rehman, who led a three-judge bench, issued a ruling on this review plea. He emphasized that the court had already given its verdict on the matter pertaining to the Family Act of 1964.
Moreover, Chief Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rehman pointed out that the case challenging the FSC judgment was already under consideration by the Supreme Court's Shariat Appellate Bench. Consequently, the jurisdiction for reviewing the plea is restricted.
He advised the applicant, Shahid Orakzai, that it would be more suitable to pursue the matter with the Shariat Appellate Bench. Justice Syed Anwar added that knowledge is not exclusive to anyone and suggested that the applicant seek legal counsel.
In its 2022 verdict, the FSC had ruled that the petition against Imran Khan's marriage did not align with the legal procedures outlined in the Federal Shariat Court (Procedure) Rules of 1981. This decision underscored the importance of adhering to legal processes when filing such petitions within the Pakistani legal system.
