COAS Gen Asim Munir's loud and clear message to security personnel

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan has intensified its efforts against currency hoarders and smugglers, and the interim interior minister, Sarfraz Bugti, announced on Monday that security personnel engaged in cross-border smuggling would be subject to court-martial proceedings. As a result of this crackdown, Pakistani currency was recovered.

During a press conference held on Monday, the interim minister stated that smuggled items and currency were transported via trucks, not camels. He mentioned that Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir had conveyed clear instructions to military personnel, emphasizing that anyone involved in illegal cross-border trade would face consequences.

Bugti explained that Gen Asim had directed his personnel, and the repercussions would not be limited to court-martials; those engaged in smuggling and other illicit activities would also be liable for imprisonment.

He added that the accountability process within the armed forces is not disclosed to the public. Furthermore, Bugti commented on the return of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, describing it as a positive development for the country's political landscape.
