Hassan can become a very good fast bowler of new ball: Waqar Younis

ISLAMABAD: While heaping praises on Hassan Ali for his outstanding performance against New Zealand in the first T20 match, former fast bowling great Waqar Younis has said that he believed the right-arm pacer can become a very good fast bowler of the new ball.

“Keeping in view the sort of pace and action which he currently has it seems to me that (soon) he will start bowling outswinger,” Waqar said while commenting upon Hassan Ali’s bowling after the first T20 match of the three-match series against New Zealand at Abu Dhabi Cricket Stadium in UAE on Wednesday.

Pakistan defeated New Zealand by two runs in a last over nail-biter and Hassan was the key bowler as he took three vital wickets.
“The history of Pakistan’s fast bowling shows that all the great pacers started their international career with the old ball while bowling reverse swing. They were only given the new ball when their confidence was developed. ”

Waqar said that it was difficult to ball with the new ball in modern cricket. “But the way Hassan is bowling, I think he has earned great respect in the shorter version of the game in a very little time. I think (now) he should bowl the outswinger.

“He bowls at a crucial time and not only restricts the batsmen from scoring runs but also takes wickets. He is doing a wonderful job. We needed such a bowler and we all are very proud of him,” he added.
