Govt continuing efforts to create consensus on prevailing law and order situation

Government is continuing efforts to create consensus on prevailing law and order situation in the country. A government delegation led by Defense Minister Pervez Khattak held separate talks with members of Pakistan Peoples Party and Pakistan Muslim League-N in Islamabad today.

Government delegation included Information Minister Chaudhary Fawad Hussain, Minister of State for Interior Affairs Shehryar Khan Afridi, Minister for Human Rights Shireen Mazari and Petroleum Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan.

The delegation apprised the PPP side of the current situation and steps being taken by the government. The PPP side included party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Syed Naveed Qamar, Syed Khursheed Shah and other leaders.

They also held a meeting with leader of the opposition and President PML-N Shahbaz Sharif at his chamber and informed him of the efforts to deescalate the situation.

During the meeting, both sides considered to bring a resolution in the National Assembly with consensus.

Talking to media after meeting with Leader of the Opposition, Information Minister Chaudhary Fawad Hussain said we will elicit opinion of major political parties on government steps. He said law and order is issue of the whole country and everyone is united on it. Chaudhary Fawad Hussain said in today's meetings opposition was briefed on the situation. He said a focal person has been appointed on the issue.
