NEW DELHI - India on Wednesday appointed Ajay Bisaria as Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan replacing Gautam Bambawale.
“Senior diplomat Ajay Bisaria has been appointed India’s High Commissioner to Pakistan,” India’s External Affairs Ministry said in a statement. He is expected to take up his new position in Pakistan in October.
According to reports in Indian media, Bisaria, who is currently an ambassador to Poland, will replace Bambawale, who will be given the role of ambassador to China.
The high-level diplomatic reshuffle took place after India’s ambassador to China Vijay Gokhale was appointed economic relations secretary at the Indian Ministry of External Affairs.
Gokhale reportedly played the lead role in defusing the recent Doklam crisis between Beijing and New Dehli.
