Restrictions to prevent demos against ban on JI in IOK

In Occupied Kashmir, the authorities imposed restrictions in Srinagar and parts of south Kashmir, today, to prevent people from staging demonstrations against the ban on Jamaat-e-Islami of the territory by the Indian government and raids on the residences of Hurriyat leaders by India’s National Investigation Agency.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik had called for peaceful demonstrations after Juma prayers, today. The JRL in a statement in Srinagar condemning the ban on the Jamaat said that New Delhi's repressive measures against the Kashmiris had become the order of the day.
The occupation authorities deployed Indian troops and police personnel in strength in Srinagar, Islamabad and Bijbehara to prevent the demonstrations. Indian forces’ personnel locked down Jamia Masjid Srinagar and disallowed people to offer Juma prayers. The authorities placed Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest while Muhammad Yasin Malik and Mukhtar Waza are already under illegal detention. However, despite restrictions, a large number of Hurriyat leaders and activists staged a demonstration at Lal Chowk in Srinagar. They shouted anti-India and pro-freedom slogans.
Indian Ministry of Home Affairs in a notification issued yesterday banned the Jamaat-e-Islami on the charges of supporting the ongoing liberation struggle and pro-freedom groups fighting for this purpose. Indian police and troops continued their crackdown against the Jamaat leaders and activists in South Kashmir arresting dozens of them.
