Saudis won’t be able to help Sharifs this time: Aitzaz Ahsan

LAHORE: Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) leader Aitzaz Ahsan has said former premier Nawaz Sharif and his brother, Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif, were working at cross purposes.

Talking to media in Lahore on Monday, he said that Nawaz had been alarmed by reports of Shehbaz meeting with senior Saudi officials.

Aitzaz Ahsan said that Shehbaz Sahrif had reached Saudi Arabia on board former army chief Raheel Sharif’s plane.

The Senator went on to say that there appeared to be a signal to the army and the judiciary that Shehbaz Sharif was favorite of the Saudi high-ups, however, the PPP leader said, he did not believe the Saudis would be able to help the Sharifs this time.

He claimed that Nawaz had not been called to Saudi Arabia, adding that the former prime minister was panicked after hearing about his brother’s meetings with Saudi authorities and arrived uninvited.

Commenting on PPP’s participation in the Tahirul Qadri-led All Parties Conference, he said that the party had not entered into an alliance with Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT). He also said that the PTI’s alliance with Samiul Haq’s Jamiatul Ulema-e-Islam would have devastating consequences.
