US imposes sanctions on two Turkish officials

ANKARA: The United States has imposed sanctions on two Turkish officials in a new attempt to get Turkey to turn over an American pastor Andrew Brunson.

According to White House spokeswoman, sanctions acted against  members of Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan’s Cabinet Justice Minister Abdulhamit Gul and Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu  over  imprisonment of Andrew Brunson.

Andrew Brunson was accused of backing a coup attempt against Erdogan two years ago.

Turkey’s Foreign Ministry called Washington’s action a “hostile stance” and said it would retaliate.
