NEW DELHI: Darul Alum Deoband declares calling "Bharat Mata Ki Jay" as un-Islamic
India’s largest Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband has issued a fatwa calling “Bharat Mata Ki Jay” as un-Islamic.
The seminary declared that chanting the slogan is against the basic principles of Islam.
The seminary claimed that “Bharat Mata” is the name of a goddess of Hindu religion and chanting that is against the “Oneness of Allah”.
Fatwa was issued by a bench of “Mufti-e-Karam” as an answer to queries of Muslims from all over the country.
Jamat-e-Islami Hind also backed the fatwa and claimed that no one should be forced to chant slogan.
Jamat-e-Islami chief Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Umri said “There are also chants of Bharat Ki Jai which is accepted by all and there is no dispute about it but saying Bharat Mata Ki Jai is not permissible since it’s against the religion of Muslims.”
Darul Uloom Deoband also issued a Fatwa in 2009 that some verses of national anthem Vande Mataram contains un-Islamic couplets.
Earlier this month, AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi refused to chant the slogan which led to a massive conflict between Muslims and Hindu.
A Muslim lawmaker’s assembly membership was also suspended for not saying the slogan.
