Shahbaz Sharif submits Rs 5.5 million cheque in Supreme Court of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president and oppositionleader in National Assembly, Shehbaz Sharif has submitted Rs 5.5 millionfine in the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

He requested Tuesday to Supreme Court to dispose of a case against himregarding hefty expenditure by the Punjab government on advertisements.

The younger Sharif submitted a cheque of Rs5.5 million payable to thegovernment of Punjab in the court, along with an application to dismiss thecase claiming that whatever he did as chief minister of Punjab was in goodfaith.

The Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar while hearing the case remarked thatShehbaz Sharif in an exemplary move has submitted the chequevoluntarily and other leaders should also follow the same.

The advertisement in question had Shehbaz’s face prominently displayed onit, which the court took notice of. The court had ordered him to reimbursethe national exchequer for the Rs5.5 million after a Punjab governmentnewspaper advertisement carrying his photograph was displayed in courtduring the hearing of the case on March 8.
