Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell's participation in their World Cup match against England is in doubt as he has suffered a concussion after a recent accident. Maxwell, who has been in excellent form, fell off a golf cart this week following a round of golf in preparation for the match against the defending champions in Ahmedabad. Cricket Australia's concussion protocols require his condition to be closely monitored in the coming days.
Head coach Andrew McDonald expressed optimism about Maxwell's recovery, stating that the player is expected to undergo light exercises soon, and the return-to-play protocol should be relatively straightforward.
Fortunately, Maxwell did not sustain any other injuries during the accident, which could have been more severe. The concussion diagnosis came as a shock to the team and has disrupted their plans.
Maxwell has faced adversity before, having broken his leg in a freak accident at a birthday party in Melbourne the previous November and missing Australia's recent tour of South Africa due to an ankle issue.
Nonetheless, he has showcased remarkable performance in the tournament, exemplified by his impressive 40-ball hundred against the Netherlands.
