Renowned FIFA World Cup winning German player Mesut Ozil has slammed India’s treatment of muslims.
On Wednesday, the 33-year-old footballer took to his Twitter account to raise his voice against India’s persecution of muslims. The former Real Madrid and Arsenal star wrote: “Praying during the holy night of Lailat al-Qadr for the safety and well-being of our Muslim brothers and sisters in India. Let’s spread awareness to this shameful situation! What is happening to the human rights in the so-called largest democracy in the world?#BreakTheSilence.”

Mesut Ozil currently plays for Turkish Super Lig club Fenerbahce.
The mid-fielder has been vocal about the human rights violations in the past too. In December 2019, he raised his voice against *China’s alleged persecution of Uighurs link *with a poem he shared on his social media.
He was playing for Arsenal at that time, who publicly distanced itself from the player’s stance. Earlier this month, he had also tweeted to urge everyone to pray for world peace.
