Elections in Punjab and KP to be held immediately after Eid ul Fitr: Sources

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday decided to implement the Supreme Court (SC) verdict in the case of delay in elections to the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) assemblies.
Sources told 24News that the ECP had decided to write a letter to President Arif Alvi and KP governor for consultations tomorrow.
They further said that the election commission had also decided to write to the Interior Ministry for security and to the Ministry of Finance for the provision of funds for the purpose.
Sources said that the ECP, in the letter, would request for the immediate provision of Rs30 billion in funds.
They further said that the election schedule would consist of 54 days. And in the event of non-cooperation by the institutions, article 220 will be invoked, sources disclosed.
Similarly, they informed, that the election commission had directed concerned wings in both Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to speed up their preparations for the polls.
Sources revealed that possibly the elections would be held after Eidul Fitr.
