KP Police recovers huge cache of arms, ammunition

KOHAT: (APP) The district police on Wednesday foiled terrorism bid and recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition being smuggled from Dara Adam Khel to Afghanistan through Kohat tunnel.
Addressing a joint press conference along with DSP Ghulam Bangesh, DSP HQs Abudl Rasheed, SSP operations Kohat Tariq Mehmood said that in the wake of recent wave of terrorism in the country, the security was put on high alter in the district and police pickets were installed across on all entry and exist points.
He said that during the routine checking early morning near Kohat Tunnel, SHO Police Station Muhammad Riaz Shaheed Inspector Amjad Hussain intercepted a suspected pickup bearing registration number BA 9719 and during checking found illegal arms concealed in cavities of the vehicle.
The police arrested accused Muhammad Jahanzaib resident of Noor Elahi Afridi Bandha Kohat and recovered 30 AK-47, 98 pistols, four silencers and 2700 bullets of different bores.
SSP Operations Tariq Mehmood told media that the accused was trying to smuggle arms to Afghanistan and from there to Waziristan in FATA for target killing and incident of terrorism, adding that a special investigation team has been constituted for interrogation from the arrested accused.
He said that DIG Kohat Region has announced commendation certificate and cash prized for the police team that foiled the terrorism bid.
Earlier, DSP Saddar Circle Hussain Ghulam Bangesh told media that SHO police station Jarma Mubarik Hussain taking action on a tip-off intercepted a vehicle number LEJ 4635 coming from Bannu to Peshawar and recovered seven KG hashish worth million of rupees from hidden cavities.
The police team arrested Asfand Year resident of Peshawar who told during initial investigation that he smuggle drugs from Peshawar to Karak and Bannu districts. The police registered a case and started further investigation.
