GB Govt, UNDGP sign to implement Glacial Lake Outburst Flood Risk Reduction project

The Gilgit-Baltistan government has signed a letter of intent with United Nations Development Programme to implement the Glacial Lake Outburst Flood Risk Reduction project in Northern Pakistan Project.
The signing ceremony was held in Islamabad today in which Additional Chief Secretary Gilgit Baltistan Syed Abrar Hussain and Resident Representative of UNDP Ignacio Artaza participated.
The LoA aims to strengthen coordination between the two parties and facilitate the implementation of activities as approved by the project steering committee.
The project will set-up early warning systems and automated weather stations to mitigate the impact of Glacial Lake Outburst Floods.
It also focuses on building small scale risk reduction infrastructure as well as promotion of water efficient and risk-informed farming technologies for the local communities.
