Afghan Police Commander killed in a suicide attack by Taliban

PUL-I-ALAM: Five Afghan Police (ALP) personnel have been killed, including their commander, as a result of a bomb explosion in central Logar province, an official said on Monday, Pajhwok news has reported.

Salim Saleh, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the explosion took place in the Ghondai village of Mohammad Agha district late on Sunday.

He said five ALP members, including commander Faqeer Ahmad, were killed when their vehicle struck a remote-controlled roadside bomb.

Jamshed, a resident of the area, claimed six policemen had been killed in the blast. “Police frequented the route, on which militants planted explosives. However, forces could not reach the site in time.”

Meanwhile, the Taliban <link> confirmed the incident. The group’s spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, claimed Taliban had planted the mine. Commander Faqeer and six others were killed and six weapons captured by the fighters, he concluded.
