Karachi Safe City project comes under NAB radar

ISLAMABAD: Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Justice Javed Iqbal on Wednesday sought report from NAB Karachi regarding media report of alleged objections of NAB on Karachi Safe City project including installing cameras in Karachi city and non reply of a letter written by Sindh IT department to NAB in 2015.
The chairman NAB said no hurdles would be tolerated under Safe City Project in Karachi including installing security cameras in Karachi, said a press release.
The cameras installation process should be transparent and in accordance with law.
As per the report of NAB Karachi, a complaint was received by NAB Karachi regarding misuse of the authority and violation of Sindh Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (SPPRA) rules.
After complaint verification, it was found that the complaint was found correct and NAB asked Sindh Public Procurement Regularity Authority (SPPRA) on December 09, 2016 that the feasibility and tendering of consultancy services under City project should be canceled as it was against the SPPRA rules and re-tendering should be made as per SPPRA rules under intimation to NAB.
Besides, writing letter to SPPRA, NAB had also informed Secretary Information Technology Department Sindh.
NAB has categorically denied the alleged media report and said that NAB is not responsible for delay in Safe City project, Karachi.
