Islamabad: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has reportedly registered a case against Salman Haider and others for allegedly running an organized campaign on the social media platforms to target Islamic beliefs with hateful and insulting commentary. It has been learned that a case has been opened against the stated individuals under the article 295-C and the Anti Terrorism Act, therefore the suspect(s) have been barred from leaving the country. It must be remembered that Salman Haider, Waqas Goraya and Asim were reportedly detained last month which lead to an intense public debate on their true affiliations. The segment of the society supporting them argued that they were 'Bloggers' who were only guilty of criticizing the state policies, although no trace of any 'blogs' written by those individuals were ever found.
The opposing voices, including some of the family members of Waqas Goraya claimed that these individuals were actually running an organize hateful campaign against Islam and Muslim beliefs under a facebook and twitter setup only known as 'Bhensa'. The debate continued to intensify until some media reports suggested that the individuals in question had been released and some of them have flown outside the country. The FIA investigation comes at a time when public opinion is deeply divided on the issue as a vast majority of people and commentators want to see a formal investigation into the matter to establish the facts, so until and unless it happens the public debate on the issue will continue to rage on.
