Russia rejects US call to cut ties with North Korea

Russia has rejected a US call to cut ties with North Korea.

Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov talking to newsmen in the Belarusian capital Minsk on Thursday said the pressure of sanctions has been exhausted.

He called the latest missile test a provocative action and appealed for calm on all sides.

Earlier, the United States has warned North Korean leadership that it would be utterly destroyed if war breaks out.

US ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley speaking at the UN Security Council's emergency meeting in New York urged all nations to cut diplomatic and trade ties with North Korea after the country's latest ballistic missile test.

She said the US has asked China to cut off oil supply to North Korea.

The latest US threat came after North Korea tested its third Intercontinental Ballistic Missile, which it claimed was capable of striking anywhere in the United States.
