SC acquits death sentence convict giving him benefit of doubt

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday acquitted a death sentence convict Mushtaq Hussain giving him the benefit of doubt.

A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa heard the case and ordered acquittal of Mushtaq Hussain over lack of evidence.

Mushtaq Hussain was awarded capital punishment by a trial over alleged murder of his maternal uncle in Layyah in 2009. The Lahore High Court also maintained the trial court verdict.

Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa remarked that the judicial system was being ruined due to false witnesses and real culprits would continue to get themselves free till the time, false witnesses continue to appear.

He remarked that the real problem was that false witnesses were manipulated and then the real culprits remain free due to false witnesses. Later, the court directed to acquit the accused and disposed
