Muslim man killed in India by Hindu extremists over suspicion of cow slaughter

NEW DELHI: Yet another Muslim man has been killed in India by Hinduextremists over suspicion of cow slaughter.

Hindu extremists accused the Muslim man of butchering a cow, police said onMonday, in the latest case of violence involving the animals consideredsacred to the country’s Hindu-majority population.

M.L. Meena, a senior police official in eastern Jharkhand state, toldReuters a crowd of 10-15 people attacked three men on Sunday, accusing themof butchering a cow in a forest about 50 km (30 miles) from the statecapital Ranchi.

The villagers beat them “severely”, Meena said. One of trio died and theothers sustained injuries. One of the men is still undergoing treatment inhospital, while the remaining victim suffered minor injuries.

Police have detained eight people in connection with the lynching in therural Khunti district, he added.
