*Machilipatnam: A Senior Indian official has been arrested upon attemptedrape on female student after refusal over sexual favour, Indian media hasreported.*

A senior official of a Nursing College in Andhra Pradesh was arrestedSaturday evening for allegedly seeking sexual favours from a 22-year-oldstudent, police said, NDTV has reported.

S Ramesh (42), the Secretary and Correspondent of the Grace Nursing Collegefor Women, was arrested a day after the woman filed a police complaintalleging that he has been harassing her and seeking sexual favours, policesaid.

Ramesh has been arrested under The Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 2013(Nirbhaya Act) and other sections of the Indian Penal Code including thoserelated to outraging the modesty of a woman, sexual harassment, criminalintimidation, Additional Superintendent of Police M. Sattibabu said.

The accused has also been charged under The Scheduled Castes and theScheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, he said.

In July, the accused had allegedly attempted to sexually assault the victimin his chamber reportedly after she refused to entertain his request forthe sexual favours, he said.
