China and Russia emerge as strategic partners at the international front

*BEIJING: *Broader and deeper cooperation between China and Russia willbring prosperity and stability to the region and the world, analysts saidas Premier Li Keqiang returned to Beijing this week after an official visitto Russia. That is especially so given the challenges of the currentinternational economic and political situation, they said.

During the three-day visit, Li had talks and co-chaired the 24th regularmeeting between Chinese and Russian heads of government with his Russiancounterpart Dmitry Medvedev in St Petersburg. Li also met with RussianPresident Vladimir Putin in Moscow.

Both countries agreed on the necessity of deepening their strategiccommunication and pragmatic cooperation as the world faces growinginstability and rising protectionism.

Li, in meeting with Putin at the Kremlin on Wednesday, said the healthy andstable development of China-Russia relations is not only beneficial to bothsides but also conducive to the region and the world.

China is willing to join Russia in safeguarding an international systemwith the United Nations at its core and a multilateral trading system basedon the World Trade Organisation’s rules, Li said. That is of greatsignificance for promoting the development, prosperity, peace and stabilityof the world, he said.

Li added that China, with its immense market potential, is expanding itsopening-up. This will bring increasing opportunities for businesses of allcountries, including Russia, he said.

Li hoped both countries would continue two-way opening up and further widenmarket access for investment to attract further cooperation opportunitiesfor businesses of both sides.
