KABUL – In the end, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani seeks Pakistan PrimeMinister Imran Khan help for peaceful elections in Afghanistan.
Ghani’s term has expired and Afghanistan is going for Presidentialelections on September 28. President Ashraf Ghani discussed peacefulelections with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Both discussed the peace process and upcoming elections in Afghanistanduring a phone conversation on Wednesday night.
“Pleased to have received phone call from Prime Minister Imran Khan lastnight. He offered his condolences regarding the loss of lives due toterrorist attacks in Parwan and Kabul,” President Ghani wrote on Twitter.
Ghani further said: “As there’s precedence of Pakistan’s help in reductionof violence during past elections, I ask Pakistan to help mitigate violencein the next one. PM Khan promised help within their capacity.”
At the same time, the U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has released astatement, saying “we expect Afghanistan’s institutions to take allnecessary steps to ensure the election is transparent and credible toAfghan voters”.
