NEW DELHI – Twitter accounts in name of Indian Army chief Gen Bipin Rawatand other Army officers were suspended by Twitter.
Other than Army chief, handles of Vice Chief Lt Gen Devraj Ambu, NorthernArmy Commander Lt Gen Ranbir Singh and Lt Gen Balwant, who retired lastyear after serving as the Central Army Commander, were also taken down fromTwitter.
One in the name of Lt Col Shrikant Purohit, who is an accused in the 2008Malegaon blast case. The Army sources said that the handle peddled fakenews in a bid to trigger controversy.
Acting on Centre’s request, the Twitter has shut down 50 such handles ofserving and retired officers.
