KABUL – Russia has responded over Afghan Taliban statement regarding peacetalks with United States.
Russia welcomed the statement by Taliban group regarding the continuationof peace talks with the United States.
Maria Zakharova, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs ofRussia has said “We welcome the Taliban Movement’s statement on readinessto continue dialogue with the US.”
Zakharova further added “We still believe, that political and diplomaticsettlement is needed in Afghanistan.”

The Taliban group issued a statement four days ago, stating that “We arecommitted to continuing negotiations till the end if a [political]settlement is chosen instead of war.”
The statement further added “Islamic emirate has its own policy and a firmstance. We called for talks 20 years ago and the stance is the same todayand we believe that the US is unduly coming back to its [previous] stance.”
