*NEW YORK – *Pakistan gets yet another good news from US State Departmentover the counter terrorism front.
In yet another bold step by the Donald Trump Administration United Statesgovernment has issued a new executive order declaring Tehrik-e TalibanPakistan chief Noor Wali as a terrorist. The US action would enhance thecountry’s ability to target terrorists and those who finance theiractivities.
The new executive order signed by President Trump also enables the USagencies to identify, sanction and deter perpetrators of terrorismworldwide. Utilising the new order, issued on the eve of the 9/11anniversary on Tuesday, the Treasury Department sanctioned over two dozenindividuals and entities from 11 terrorist groups, includingTehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
It allows the US government to better target terror group leaders andprovides new tools to pursue individuals who participate in terroristtraining, Treasury Department Secretary Steven Mnuchin said.
The executive order also authorises secondary sanctions on foreignfinancial institutions that have knowingly conducted or facilitatedsignificant transactions with sanctioned persons, Mnuchin said. He addedthat the order targets those actors for and behalf of specially-designatedglobal terrorists.
“Specifically, we have leaders, operative and financiers from over 11terrorist organisations, including Iran’s Quds Forces, Hamas, ISIS, AlQaeda, and their affiliates,” Mnuchin told White House reporters at a jointnews conference with the Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
