ISLAMABAD – Oil and Gas Development Company Limitedlink (OGDCL) has planned tostart drilling activities in potential areas of Sindhlink in Decemberlink this year forexploration of Shale gas link and oil link depositsidentified almost five years ago, which would also help determine the costlink of fuel extractionlink.
“In pursuit of the Shale gaslink exploration, the companylink is working to drillthe first-ever unconventional Shale gaslink well in Decemberlink at a fastlink track. Followingwhich, the OGDCL boardlink and itsmanagement are also planning to carry out back to back drilling at ninemore Shale wells,” a senior official privy to petroleum sector developmentstold APP.
A study completed in collaboration with the United Stateslink Agency forInternational Development, covering lower and middlelink Indus Basin, hadidentified massive Shale gaslink and oillink reserves in 2015link.
The report confirmed presence of 10,159 trillion cubic feet (TCF) Shale gaslink and 2,323 billionlink of stock tanklink barrels (BSTB) Shaleoil link in place resources.
After identification of the deposits, a task had been given to OGDCL andPakistan link Petroleum Limited toundertake pilot project(s) in potential areas to assess the costlink of extracting Shale gaslink and oillink, delayed due to certainreasons.
According to the study, there are 188TCF gaslink and 58 BSTB oillink technically recoverableresources, while the risked technically recoverable resources stand at95TCF gas link and 14 BSTBoil link.
The study covered lower and middle Indus Basin, which geographicallyspreads over Sindh link, southern parts of Punjablink and eastern parts ofBalochistan link.Total area under the study was 271,700km, which is 33 percent of the totalsedimentary area of the country.
During the study, a detailed analysis of 124 wells was carried out, including laboratory analysis on Shale cores and cuttings in the UnitedStates link. Objectives of the study were to validate Shale gaslink resource estimate, initial findings, assess availability of required technologylink andinfrastructure for Shale gaslink operations andformulate guidelines for the Shale gaslink policy.
Following the reserves’ identification, a dedicated Shale gaslink and oillink centre had beenestablished at the Petroleum House to facilitate interested Exploration andProduction companies to exploit the potential.
