Saudi Arabia launches yet another initiative over the Hajj and Umrah Visas

RIYADH – Saudi Arabia launches yet another initiative over the Hajj andUmrah Visas for the women.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is mulling possibility of allowing women toperform Hajj without a male guardian.

According to *Arab News*, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah is conductingresearches to issue visit visas for both tourism and Umrah purposes, andthis process is expected to pave the way for allowing women to come withoutthe need for a *mahram *(male guardian).

In order to perform pilgrimage, women are currently required to travel witha male guardian or be met by him on arrival in the kingdom, however, womenover the age of 45 may travel without a *mahram* if they are in anorganised tour group.

This development comes in the line with a number of other reforms made inthe Hajj and Umrah sector recently.
