ISLAMABAD: Textile exports from the country increased by 2.95pc during thefirst quarter of the current fiscal year (July-Sept FY20) compared with thecorresponding period of the last fiscal year.
The textile exports during the period under review were recorded at$3,371.974 million as against the exports of $3,275.303 million duringJuly-September 2018-19, according to latest data by the Pakistan Bureau ofStatistics (PBS).
The textile commodities that contributed to the positive growth includedraw cotton, exports of which grew by 53.65pc, from $7.047 million to$10.828 million.
Similarly, the exports of yarn (other than cotton yarn) increased by21.95pc, from $7.759 million last year to $9.462 million, while that ofknitwear surged by 11.14pc, from $701.393 million to $779.548 million.
Bed wear exports increased 2.84pc, from $583.949 million to $600.562million; exports of readymade garments registered 11.49pc growth, from$598.612 million to $667.361 million; exports of art, silk and synthetictextile increased by 8.37pc, from $72.568 million to $78.641 million; whilethe exports of cotton (carded or combed) witnessed a cent per cent increaseand amounted $0.032 million during the period under review.
On the other hand, the products that witnessed a decrease in exportsincluded cotton yarn (-6.19pc), from $313.707 million to $294.280 million.
Likewise, the exports of cotton cloth declined by 5.6pc, from $529.053million to $499.419 million; towel exports decreased by 2.31pc, from$184.431 million to $180.169 million; exports of tents, canvas andtarpaulin exports dipped by 5.74pc, from $16.717 million to $15.758million; exports of made-up articles (excluding towels bed wear) reduced by6.58pc, from $160.152 million to $149.613 million; while that of othertextile materials decreased by 13.63pc, from $99.915 million to $86.301million.
On a year-on-year basis, the export of textile group increased by 4.38pcduring the month of September 2019, as against September 2018. The textileexports during September 2019 were recorded at 1.06 billion as against theexports of $1.02 billion.
