ISLAMABAD – Following the United States’ legislation to show support forpro-democracy protesters in Hong Kong, China has warned US to stop meddlingand has threatened to take counter measures against the bill.
On Tuesday, the House of Representatives passed the Hong Kong Human Rightsand Democracy Act to show support for the ongoing protests in Hong Kong. Ina statement issued by the foreign ministry, China has showed itsindignation over the bill and said that Hong Kong affairs are purelyChina’s internal affairs and cannot be interfered by any outside forces,international media reported.
The statement further said that regarding the wrong decision of US, theChinese side will have to enact effective countermeasures, firmly safeguardChinese sovereignty, security and development interests.

“What Hong Kong faces is not the so-called human rights and democracy issueat all, but the issue of stopping violence, reinstating order and upholdingthe rule of law as soon as possible,” said the statement.
