*NEW DELHI – Indian Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh unveils newplans to stop water flow to Pakistan’s Punjab.*
Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh today urged the central government tobuild canals on the state’s three eastern rivers of the Indus water systemas a national project, to enable conservation of water and enhancement ofthe region’s economic growth.
Building canals and carrying out development of riverfront areas, he said,will expand activities leading to widening of Punjab economy’s base,diversifying economic activities and sources of livelihood for the state’srapidly growing younger generation.
In his proposal, presented to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a meetingwith him, the Chief Minister suggested construction of high speed economiccorridors on over 945 km-long river embankments, flood protection measuresand lining of internal side-slopes of the Sutlej, Ravi and Beas.
