ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Business Council seek Military Chief General QamarJaved Bajwa’s support in critical condition of the economy and thepolitical unrest prevailing in the country.
Pakistan Business Council delegation of at least 20 businessmen called onarmy chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa at the General Headquarters onWednesday to inform the top general of the economic crisis being faced bythe country.
The high-level delegation, mostly members of Pakistan Business Council(PBC), met Gen Bajwa at dinner, a member of the delegation told *PakistanToday*.
The delegation will also meet Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday, it waslearnt.
“The meetings with the prime minister and the army chief are aimed ataddressing the burning issues being faced by the business community in thecountry,” said a business leader, adding that uncertainty, lack of clarityin government policies, negative growth in large scale manufacturing werethe key issues to be discussed.
“We are mainly concerned with the uncertainty in the economic and politicalsituation. The interest rates, lower growth in manufacturing and investmentare related to issues,” said a businessman while talking to *Pakistan Today*.
According to sources privy to details, the PBC members were concerned aboutthe recent arrest of their members, like the arrest of former managingdirector (MD) of Pakistan States Oil (PSO) Sheikh Imranul Haq, by theNational Accountability Bureau (NAB) in an inquiry into illegal award ofLNG terminal-1 to Engro Energy Terminal Private Limited.
“The recent NAB summons for tycoon Hussain Dawood, Engro Corporationchairman, has also annoyed the PBC,” they claimed.
