ISLAMABAD – Turkish top officials make big economic offers toPakistan.Turkish Konya Governor Orhan said that Turkish businessmen arekeen to step into joint ventures with their Pakistan counterparts invarious fields, adding that both countries should enhance cooperation intrade, industry and tourism.

He said that Turkish people have deep love and respect for Allama MuhammadIqbal and his teachings are a part of the lasting bonds between Turkey andPakistan.

Governor Punjab Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar said that a ‘Governors of MuslimCountries Conference’ would be convened very soon and governors of allMuslim countries will be invited.

“We cannot grow until and unless we work hand in hand with the businesscommunity,” the governor said, adding that the business community is thebackbone of the economy.

LCCI President Irfan Iqbal Sheikh said that Lahore and Konya are twohistorical cities and have a number of commonalities. “Konya has thereputation of being one of the more religiously fundamentalist metropolitancentres in Turkey.”

He said that Konya has a number of industrial parks and the city’s economyhas evolved into a centre for the manufacturing of components for theautomotive industry, agricultural tools, plastic, paint & chemicalindustry, paper & packing industry, processed foods, textiles and leatherindustry etc.

“There are several Special Economic Zones being built in Pakistan underCPEC and we would like to have industrial cooperation with Turkishbusinessmen in these areas. LCCI Senior Vice President Ali Hussam Asgharsaid that mutual trade volume is $661 million which has a potential totouch $1 billion.
