ISLAMABAD – War hysteric Indian military test fires nuclear capabletactical missile Prithvi-II.
The Strategic Forces Command of Indian Army on Wednesday test-firedindigenously developed surface-to-surface nuclear-capable missilePrithvi-II off Odisha coast. The missile was test-fired from launch pad-IIIof Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur of Balasore district.
Prithvi-II missile has been developed by Defence Research and DevelopmentOrganisation (DRDO) and it was inducted in armed forces in 2003. The trialof the surface-to-surface missile was carried out from a mobile launcherfrom launch complex-3 of the ITR between 7 pm to 7.15 pm. Sources aid thatit was a routine trial, he added, Zee News has reported.
Prithvi-II missile has a strike range of 350 km and it is capable ofcarrying 500/100 kg warheads. The ballistic missile is powered by theliquid propulsion twin engine. The last night time testfire of Prithvi-IIwas conducted on February 21, 2018. The missile uses an advanced inertialguidance system with manoeuvring trajectory to hit its target.
It is to be noted that the nine-metre-tall, single-stage liquid-fuelledPrithvi-II is the first missile to have been developed under the IntegratedGuided Missile Development Programme of DRDO.
Prithvi-II missile was developed with the Indian Air Force being theprimary user. It was first test-fired on January 27, 1996 and thedevelopment stages were completed in 2004.
