ISLAMABAD – On Tuesday, two bogies of the Tezgam Express train werederailed at the Cantt Railway Station, Karachi. The Tezgam Express washeading to Rawalpindi from Karachi.
The bogies derailed when the train was shifting from the washing line tothe main platform of the Cantt Railway Station. Thankfully, no injurieswere reported after the incident.
Railway authorities stopped the trains heading to Karachi at differentrailway stations after the incident. Railway traffic was suspended for morethan 4 hours.
Rescue teams and railway officials rushed to the scene immediately. Therescue operation was completed within 4 hours after which railway trafficwas resumed.
In a separate incident, on Tuesday afternoon, two bogies of the KarachiExpress also derailed at the same railway station. No injuries werereported.
These incidents come in the wake of the recent horrific explosion in aTezgam Express train. On 3rd November, 75 people were burned to death whena gas cylinder exploded as the train was passing Rahim Yar Khan. Theill-fated Tezgam Express was traveling to Rawalpindi from Karachi.
Train accidents and derailment incidents are becoming common in Pakistan.According to the data provided by the Ministry of Railway, 74 trainaccidents were reported between August 2018 and June 2019. These accidentshave claimed numerous lives with scores sustaining injuries. As a result ofthese accidents, Pakistan Railway has suffered losses worth billions.
