ISLAMABAD – *Electricity Prices increased significantly in Pakistan by th*heNational Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra).
NEPRA announced on Tuesday an increase in electricity tariff by Rs 1.82 perunit, the decision is taken on account of fuel price adjustment forSeptember, 2019.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has requested Nepra to raiseprices by Rs.2.97 per unit, after hearing CPPA’s arguments Nepra raisedelectricity prices by Rs1.82 under the head of monthly fuel priceadjustment.
During a hearing between the CPPA and Nepra, the power purchasing agencysaid that additional load shedding would need to be done if the powerplants were not run on furnace oil.
The decision will put an additional burden of Rs24 billion on electricityconsumers – whereas, receipts will be made in November bills. Theelectricity prices will not be applicable to the consumers of K-Electric.
Just days ago, Nepra shelved an increase of Rs2.97 per unit in electricitytariff for September 2019 for six days, just a day before Azadi March ofJUI (F), apparently due to non-availability of accurate data on economicmerit order of power plants.
