ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Army Chief breaks silence over the Azadi March andsupport for PM Imran KHAN.
Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa has said that PakistanArmy as an organ of the state will continue to support nationalinstitutions as and when asked in accordance with the Constitution.
“We have attained better internal security and stability through cohesivenational efforts and sacrifices rendered by Pakistan’s armed forces, allnational institutions and above all the nation. We shall not let it reverseto suit any vested agenda at any cost,” he said while presiding over the226th Corps Commanders’ Conference at GHQ on Monday.
The military’s assurance of support to the Imran Khan-led government comesat a time when JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, along with all majoropposition parties, has staged ‘Azadi March’ sit-in in Islamabad to toppleit.
The firebrand cleric had also criticised the security establishment forallegedly backing the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.
DG ISPR Major General Asif Ghafoor however clarified that the Pakistanimilitary is an impartial state institution, which always supportsdemocratically elected governments in accordance with the Constitution.
