World Bank President holds important meeting with Pakistan PM Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD – The World Bank has recognized the efforts of the governmenttowards economic turn-around, reducing expenditures, practicing austerityand initiating reforms in critical sectors of the economy.

Talking to Prime Minister Imran Khan in Islamabad on Thursday, World BankPresident David Malpass, appreciated Pakistan’s efforts that there issubstantial progress in economic indicators despite Global and internalfiscal challenges.

Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Imran Khan appreciated WorldBank’s financial and technical support to Pakistan and reiterated theGovernment’s resolve towards strengthening of economy, ensuringtransparency and good governance.

He said that ease-of-doing business, enhancing tax base, domestic resourcemobilization, attracting foreign investment and financial reforms agendaare the foremost priorities of the government.

Imran Khan apprised that the government has launched various initiativesaimed at welfare of the youth, poverty alleviation and housing sectors thatwill ultimately result in economic development.

President World Bank was accompanied by Regional VP South Asia HartwigSchafer, Ceyla Pazarbasioglu-Dutz, Regional Vice President IFC SnezanaStolijkovic and Country Director World Bank Pakistan Patchamuthu Illangovan.

Ministers for Economic Affairs, Planning, Water Resources, Advisors onFinance, Institutional Reforms and Special Assistants on Information andPoverty Alleviation were also present in the meeting.
