ISLAMABAD: Deputy Chairman Senate Saleem Mandviwalla has said that Pakistanprovides shortest route through sea, land and aerial link for trade andeconomic activities for the Central Asian States and there is need to chalkout a mechanism to boost trade and business cooperation between CARs andPakistan utilizing all the viable options of connectivity. Deputy ChairmanSenate expressed these views during a meeting with Atadjan Movlamov, theAmbassador of Turkmenistan at the Parliament House on Wednesday.
He said that Pakistan values it ties with CARs and particularlyTurkmenistan and desires to expand these ties at bilateral and multilaterallevels. He said that leadership of the two sides have always placedbilateral relations at high esteem and therefore steps need to be taken tobring people of the two sides more close.
Mandviwalla pointed out that there is huge potential for enhancing tradeand in this regard business communities of the two sides needs to beconnected. He proposed organizing investment conferences between Pakistanand Turkmenistan. He said that TDAP and BOI must take practical steps toengage and business communities of the two countries.
He said that Islamabad and Ashgabat have initiated some important projects.TAPI and TAP projects need to be expedited to overcome the energy crisis.Saleem Mandviwalla also proposed direct flights between Pakistan andTurkmenistan as such an initiative would give boost trade and tourismsectors. He said that investors can explore the possibilities of investmentand initiate joint ventures in different sectors. Mandviwalla was flankedby Senator Kalsoom Parveen, Convener of Pakistan- Turkmenistan FriendshipGroup in the Senate.
Both Mandviwalla and Senator Kalsoom Parveen stressed the need forenhancing parliamentary cooperation and bilateral institutional linkages.Senator Kalsoom said that Turkmenistan is an important country and thefriendship groups can play a vital role in boosting cooperation and promotepeople to people contacts. Senator Saleem Mandviwalla called upon thefriendship group to hold frequent meetings and explore ways and means tofurther boost cooperation.
Ambassador of Turkmenistan said that Pakistan is an important country andthe government of Turkmenistan wants to further deepen the bond offriendship between the two countries. He said that both sides are workingclosely on different projects.
He agreed with the views of Deputy Chairman Senate to enhance trade andbusiness cooperation for mutual benefit of the two sides. He said thatsteps are being taken to encourage more exchanges at business and tradelevels. He thanked the Deputy Chairman Senate for his candid views to boostbilateral cooperation and enhance parliamentary exchanges.
In a separate meeting with Akan Rekhmetullin, Ambassador of Kazakhstan,Deputy Chairman Senate Senator Saleem Mandviwalla has underscored the needfor enhancing trade and investment between Pakistan and Kazakhstan formutual benefit of the people of two sides. Deputy Chairman Senate observedthat it is in the interest of both the countries to have a proper channelfor bilateral trade and investment.
He said that Kazakhstan is an important country for Pakistan and we placethe mutual beneficial relationship with Kazakhstan at high esteem.
Deputy Chairman Senate also proposed direct flights between Pakistan andKazakhstan. He said that frequent exchange of business delegations wouldbring people of the two countries closer.
