ISLAMABAD – In a big relief, PTI government unveils new winter power tarifffor consumers across Pakistan.
The federal government is going to introduce a flat tariff regime forelectricity consumers having ToD (Time and Day) meters. The new rates willbe Rs. 11.97 per unit throughout the winter reason.
The move will not only provide massive relief to the government, but itwill also help it slip out of the capacity payment trap of Rs. 849 billion,as idle power projects will also come into use during the winter.
According to an official source at the Power Division, the department hasprepared a summary which will be presented before the ECC in the nextmeeting for approval.
After the final approval from the federal cabinet, the summary tariff ismost likely to be imposed from November. The new tariff regime will staytill February 2020, the source added.
Currently, there are two power tariff regimes in the country: peak hourstariff, and an off-peak tariff.
Yes, we are going to offer flat tariff at Rs11.97 to the domestic andcommercial consumers using electricity through ToD (Time of Day) meters.
The flat tariff regime will also apply to industrial consumers of B1 andB2, Joint Secretary (Power) at Power Division, Zargham Eshaq Khan confirmed.
He added that the new regime will not affect the NEPRA tariffs that arebased on monthly and quarterly fuel adjustments.
